On the Frontlines of Medical Assistance

Recently, the team from the Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Department of Jiangsu Province Hospital completed Uzbekistan's first POEM operation at the Vakhidov Institute of Practical Surgical Science in Tashkent, the capital city.

To align with the "Belt and Road" initiative and foster academic exchanges and cooperation in the field of international gastrointestinal endoscopy, Professor Fan Zhining, Professor Liu Li, and their colleagues from the Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Department of Jiangsu Province Hospital were invited to Uzbekistan for an extended visit for academic exchange.

During the visit, Professor Fan Zhining and Professor Liu Li performed a series of high-difficulty endoscopic surgeries, among which the POEM operation was the first of its kind in Uzbekistan. The surgery was broadcasted live to 14 other hospitals in the rest of the country and to other countries in the Central Asian region.

At the same time, the director of the Vahidov Center conferred the title of Honorary Professor to Professor Fan Zhining and Professor Liu Li, and signed a memorandum of cooperation between both parties.

Director Ismailov pointed out that this knowledge sharing and technology demonstration is a model of China's medical technology export, which is of great significance to the development of the center. It also contributes to the improvement of medical standards in Uzbekistan. He hopes that both sides will explore greater cooperation opportunities in the future, jointly promote the development of the medical field, and bring health and hope to more patients.Professor Fan Zhining and Director Liu Li expressed their opinions.

During this visit, the Chinese team conducted theoretical lectures on the latest technologies in the field of digestive endoscopy, such as the treatment of submucosal tumors and POEM. We will continue to work hard to contribute to the improvement of medical service quality and the development of the medical cause in the countries participating in the "Belt and Road" initiative. During this trip, the digestive endoscopy team from Jiangsu Province Hospital also visited the Emergency Medical Research and Treatment Center located in Bukhara, Uzbekistan, and visited the medical center's operation rooms, endoscopy rooms, and ICU. As the largest emergency medical center in the region, the center plays a very important medical role. During the exchange, both sides put forward constructive suggestions for further cooperation in the endoscopy department and other disciplines in the future.
